Interesting Light

From Feldard’s dwarven sense of direction underground and Miklos’ map it looked like the door at the other end of the hall led to the Beholders’ room and said as much to the group. “Nicolai, Hasan and I will check it to be sure, while Miklos, Saeth and Maruc discuss what that red glow is.” He continued ahead with Nicolai and the Siswa elf, first listening at the door then fixing in his mind that the floating eye he would likely see was only an illusion.

Hasan lagged behind Feldard and Nicolai. While he was fairly sure the dragon was an impossibility, he was decidedly less skeptical about the clearly magical ‘beholder’ Miklos had described. A dragon is a living creature that needs food and water like any other, but the creature of pure magic … well, who could know what rules govern such creatures. Hasan knew he should stand by the sides of his two companions, but suicide was not of much interest.

Getting the all-clear from Nicolai, Feldard threw open the door. When the menacing creature appeared, Nicolai fired an arrow towards the floating eye. As expected, the illusion dissolved, revealing an identical, small square-shaped room to the one that had held the dragon illusion.

“Interesting light there.” Miklos passed his hand into the corridor so the light reflected off it. “No heat.” He commented. “So I guess we need an arrow or something shot down there just to see what happens to it.”

“The power of Halav protects those who are not foolish. I will see what I can from here.”

It seemed safe enough so Maruc, shielding his eyes, leaned into the path of the light to peer into the glow to see what was there. The entire southern wall of the hallway glowed with intense redness. Nothing could be seen.

  1. Feldard (Dwf 3)

Feldard nodded in satisfaction towards the rogue. “Good shot.” The dwarf, shouldered his axe and turned back towards the rest of the group at the junction of the red lit hallway. Arriving back amongst the others he peered towards the southern wall. “So what figure you, mage? Is it a trap? Do we enter the hall and investigate or turn about and check the other doors in the main hall? “

  2. Saeth Tegau

“You think we should toss something in, just to see what happens?” Saeth querried. It wasn’t nearly as heroic as charging in blindly, but it was probably a far better idea. “Shall I throw a dagger, see what it bounces off of?” She loosened a dagger in its sheath, preparing for their assent.

And if it’s given, she will toss it. Listening carefully for the dimensions of the hallway.

  3. Maruc (Clr 4)

Maruc nodded to the elfmaid, then stood back to see what happens.

  4. Miklos (Mu 3)

“It’s an unnatural light to be sure, Feldard.” Miklos replied, “If I were skilled enough I might be able to counter it. It would be easy to say that it was another illusion but I doubt it would be that simple. Maruc can you determine if there is an evil aura eminating from the light source?”

  5. Maruc (Clr 4)

Maruc closed his eyes and clasped his holy symbol. He offered Halav a prayer of guidance tried reached out with his feelings….

  6. Hasan

Hasan slowed moved back to his companions studying the glowing wall. The red on his usually pale cheeks reflected more than just the glow from the opposite wall. His fear of the beholder still rankled.
