Searching For Magic

Miklos was disappointed at not finding anything in the master bedroom and he pondered the problem. A mage who could light his entire dwelling in magical glow globes was entirely capable of hiding his gear magically.

“Gentlemen, and ladies. Before we depart from the upper halls of the tower I shall perform a magical detection incantation. This hopefully will reveal any illusionary walls or magically hidden devices. I cannot believe that Dentiata had no spellbook or kept no notes. He may have altered their appearence somehow.”

Miklos opened his book and mouthed the commands formulating his Detection Spell.

While Miklos prepared his spell, Maruc replied to the Elfmaid. “It seems Ashira does not wish to go back Saeth so you are saved a long journey, but anyway our search for the Sons of Night may well take us there. If Ashira choses to stay with us her knowledge of the Barony would prove invaluable. But why, I wonder did Dentiata move here? There must be a good reason, you don’t just come along and build towers ‘in sight’ of Specularum and expect not to be noticed.”

He voiced a thought to Ashira. “Ashira do you know why he moved with such speed?”

“With Dentiata, everything was done with urgency. He was not a patient man.”

Feldard sighed at the mage’s announcement but Miklos had a point. So the dwarf waited by the stairway up as patiently as one of his temperment can, tapping his booted foot as the minutes passed.

His spell cast, Miklos scanned all the rooms and hallway of the second floor. The only magical residue he detected came from the glowglobes placed throughout. The group was now ready to either take the stairs to the third floor, or go down to the dungeon.

  1. Saeth Tegau

“The prisoners should keep, and abandoning Miklos for a time in the mage’s workshop doubtless seems an attractive idea. Shall we take a look upstairs?” Saeth slowly began climbing upwards.

  2. Nicolai (T4)

“I suggest we go up before we go down. Miklos, if your Detection spell has any more use, I would say you go first. Else, Feldard and I should go forth and search for secret doors and traps”.

Nicolai moves towards the stairs upwards, and then turns to Ashira and says “Do you know of anything that may hinder our progress upstairs, notably traps or guards?”

  3. Miklos (Mu3)

Miklos will agree with Saeth if there is any more capacity in the spell otherwise he will allow the more skilled scouts to search out the way.

  4. Miklos (Mu3)

I was under the impression we where at the top of the tower. If there are further levels above Miklos would certainly investigate these before searching the dungeons.

Is it possible to post a map – even if it just a quick sketch? Thanks.

  5. Maruc (Clr3)

Maruc press the girl further as they walked on.
“I am struggling to understand what caused Dentiata to move. His activities surely would have been less remarkable in the Black Eagle Barony than here. Either something or someone forced his hand back there or there was something here that attracted him enough to set up here permanently. Perhaps one of his ‘relics’ lies hidden nearby and he required time and space to locate it?” Maruc waited to see the Ashira could shed any light on his thoughts.

“We must not overlook the fact that Sevastian was based not far from here and he was a member of the same brotherhood. We are lead to believe there was a competitive nature within the society, perhaps Dentiata wished to deny Sevastian this ‘find’?”

“Hopefully in his workshop we will find answers to these questions, but my guess is that what we find will just yield more questions.”

  6. Miklos (Mu3)

Miklos sighed at the total lack of results from his casting and he ushered Nicolai and Saeth forward to continue the search. Falling back to Maruc and the girl he caught the last of the conversation.

“Indeed, Maruc the workshop will reveal more than Ashira can guess at through recollection.”

  7. Feldard (Dwf 3)

Feldard listened to the verbal investigations by his companions and shook his head with a slight scowl. The last thing he had wanted when he agreed to help those at the village was to get more embroiled in the dark dealings of evil mages. But it seemed that is exactly what was turning out to be. Not a pleasant prospect from the dwarf’s point of view.
At last the mage was finished and they could continue on. Up the stairs the dwarf went, with Nicolai at his side – the man wasn’t as bad as he’d first assumed with their initial meeting in the slaver tunnels so short time ago.
As usual Feldard had his battle axe at the ready and he scanned the construction of the stairway for those signs of engineered traps.
