Let’s Do It

“Let’s do it,” said the young rogue Nicolai.

“Yes, let’s. You mind grabbing some of that rope from back in the tack room?” Saeth gestured toward the back of the barn.

The rope was retrieved from the tack room, and the dwarf wound it about a stall post several times and tucked in one end, the other end he dropped down into the tunnel. He tested the strength of his ‘knot’ by tugging on the long end of it, hard. “Will that do?”

“It looks like it’ll hold.” Saeth took the rope and slid down.

She lowered herself into the tunnel. It was about 7-feet wide and was crudely hewn through mostly solid rock beneath the hill. The ceiling was about 8-feet high. After about 25 feet, the tunnel bent to the right.

  1. Feldard (Dwf 3)

Feldard clambered down the rope after the Elf. His descent was not as nearly as smooth or dexterous but he managed it more by strength. Once in the tunnel, the dwarf began his studying of the tunnel engineering, alert for signs of false floors and other constructed traps typical for this type of tunnel.
assuming this part – delete if not so
“The tunnel is sound, should be safe enough to proceed.” He motioned the others to come down. Feldard moved along towards the tunnel bend just behind and to the side of the Elf – letting her take point.

  2. Saeth Tegau

Saeth shivered slightly. She hated these tunnels–too small to swing a sword or axe, and hardly a hint of life in the hewn rock walls. The faster they were through it, the better. She pushed forward, hands near the hilts of her daggers.

  3. Maruc (Clr3)

More confident now that the first two had not spotted anything untoward, Maruc climbed down the rope and joined the others. “Hmm this is cosy. Lead on Master Dwarf.”

  4. Miklos (Mu2)

Miklos paused a moment at the top of the tunnel. He didn’t share the Dwarfs’ opinion, crudely hacked tunnels still held an element of fear for him. He knew it was irrational but tht didn’t help. He’d tried to sound possitive about the discovery to hide his own trepidation. He rummaged around in his pack for the Fire beetle gland but it had long since lost its glow. He lit the lantern they had retained for the Goodwifes house. Oh dear, we should have returned this, too late now. Miklos made a mental note to return it to her.

“I’m coming down with a lantern so if you want to check ahead first.”

Miklos awaits any response then decends into the tunnel

The swinging glow of the lantern helped his nerves a little and it wasn’t so bad now he was down here. Best get this over with, “After you.” He said.

  5. Nicolai (T3)

Nicolai follows with sword drawn, trying to keep an eye out for traps.
