Gathering in the Barn

“Not me, but him.” Saeth pointed to the thief, and the door he’d uncovered. “He wanted you to take a look before he opened it. Overly cautious, perhaps, but that’s not always a fault.”

Maruc looked over his shoulder. “Look Miklos, Nicolai has discovered a trap door. This could save us a lot of bother.”

Miklos entered and looked. “Excellent! Well done Nicolai this will do splendidly. To be honest I never liked the idea of storming the Tower.” The relief radiated from the young Mage.

Feldard nodded toward Bram. “Tell Skelly he’s done a good job!” Then he too made his way across the field to the barn as quick as his short legs could take him, every step imagining a crossbow bolt aimed at him from above. Inside the barn, he took in the fact that they’d found a possible secret entrance to the Tower. Hmph! Seemed the priest had called that one right. While the others clustered about the trapdoor, Feldard kept watch from the barn door. ‘Let someone else lead,’ he thought to himself, ‘I’ll take up rearguard for a while. Ain’t in no hurry to meet up with this Dentiata anyways.’

In size, the trapdoor took up the entirety of the floor on the pony’s stall. There was no latch and no hinges.
