More Dwarven Grumbling

“Hmm…here’s a twist. Should we go in the front door, or go through the secret door, that may or may not take us where we want to go. In this case, I’d say stealth is worth more than speed, so I would willingly take this way, indirect though it may be. But I do not feel strongly, and will follow the will of the group.”

“Answer me this, Hasan. In which direction were the tracks going? To or from the ruins? … As I said this is likely the way that the Rahib made it past the Guardian. What we seek, is likely still within the ruins along with the Sisters and whatever evil they’ve conjured up.”

“We do not know who made the tracks and what purpose drove them, but one does not go through the pains of concealing a door for no reason. Consider that whoever dwells beyond these doors wishes to be left alone. These giant doors are obvious.” said Miklos indicating the entrance. “Therefore it is reasonable to conclude that the tunnel should be investigated first. If only to ensure no enemies get behind us.”

Maruc flashed the lantern down the tunnel. “This tunnel appears to lead away from the tower. But I agree with Miklos, unless there is some way of locking this door and proofing it against undead that can pass through rock we must take a look. We cannot allow ourselves to be trapped.”

“Fine, then lets get on with this, before you humans begin to keel over due to old age!”

“I’d rather have the pleasure of getting to old age.” mumbled Miklos under his breath.

And so, the party being in agreement, they followed Feldard down the tunnel, as he grumbled under his breath that once again the party would rather traipsy around rather than meet the enemy head on. The dwarf moved down the tunnel a little less cautiously than he likely should.. but he was in a sour mood with all the waiting and the meandering route to their foe, and his impatience showed.

The tunnel was slightly longer than the other had been, and it ended at a familiar sight. To no surprise to the dwarf, whose underground sense of direction told him where they were headed, the tunnel ended at what appeared to be the other side of the door that was magically sealed in the Rahib’s chambers.

  • “Well that explains that, better safe than sorry eh?” Miklos grinned as he turned on his heals and strode back down the tunnel. Back in the chamber of the doors he stood to one side to allow the others to continue with their atempt on the portal.

  • The priest said nothing to fray the dwarfs temper any further. He knew Feldard to see the wisdom of such an action, but perhaps this level of caution was not justified? Only time would tell.

He returned with the others and resumed his position to the right of the door waiting for Nicolai to pronounce the door safe to open.

  • “Where does that leave us?” mused Saeth from the rear. “If we’ve just come in a circle, did we miss anything of note in the deeper tower?”

  • Hasan answered Saeth’s question in grand fashion. It was clear he had been contemplating the question — “Where does that leave us?” — for some time. “In the deeper tower lies our fate, I fear. We shall now need all our strength, as there appears to be no way in except the most direct way. More undead surely await us. But so too does the heart of this Darker madness.”

Fidgeting with the Ring of Elyas, he continued, “My people have long followed the Quiet Way, protectecting ourselves from the temptation to pursue the deepest understanding of life and death. But see what that has wrought. Evil has rekindled that knowledge in this place. My duty is to confront that evil. I am thankful to have met you on this path, and welcome your support.”

  • The dwarf said nothing through this all and stomped his way back up through the tunnel to the tower entrance. As he waited for the others to take up position once more, his look to each warned of not trying to delay any longer.
When all were in position, he entered without pause.. really hoping there was some undead inside. He needed to vent some aggression and socially it was more acceptable for his to do it against an enemy than amongst the party.

  • (acceptable for HIM to do it)
