Keeping to the mage’s suggestion of staying to the left, Feldard entered the ‘dead end’ hallway to the west trying to move ahead of the mage’s lantern light at first to have better use of his infravision peering into the shadows. Then as the others moved forward the dwarf studied the far wall of the dead end looking for any sign of concealed or hidden door.
As the party moved to down the hallway, Saeth took up position in the intersection, scanning the other three corridors for anything approaching. Seeing nothing, she hissed at the others, “Anything down that way?”
Suddenly, four men wearing leather armor and armed with short swords drawn charged forth from the north, seemingly emerging into existence from out of nothingness.

“Vas’tul!” the epithet spewed forth from the Elfin swordswoman in surprise. Recovering herself, she took a step back, murmurring words softly in a rhythmic tongue, the words hastened to complete the ritual of arcane protection by the time the men were upon her. Her sword–a pity that Nicholai had disappeared with her blade!–rose into a guard position.
You say “Men”. They are human? Or Elven? If the latter, Saeth isn’t striking to kill…
And it’s the “Shield” spell, if I was ambiguous.

Heh, thought the Mage, so much for the ‘Siswa Cloak’ ruse.
Miklos hoped that one of the swordsmen might be their young Rogue has had been the case before. But he doubted that he’d have managed to infiltrate the Siswa with such speed. Realising too late that his sleep spell would have been useful here he brought his staff up to defend himself as best he could.

Maruc suppressed his surprise at the assualt and shrugged off the redundant cloak. The lamplight gleamed of his new armour and a mirthless grin crept across his features as he strode toward the warriors alongside his surly dwarf friend.
Shaking out his flail-chain and raising his shield he collided with the first warrior hoping to disable him swiftly.

They are human. Karameikan from the looks of them.

The sudden appearance of the attackers from the north startle the dwarf for a moment but his axe is quick to come up, he matches stride with the priest, turning to intercept the charge. The fact that they are human surprises the dwarf more, but at least this way he won’t feel obliged not to kill them.
Feldard meets the charge in the intersection where the cleric and the elf can also join in the fray. He stands directly in front of Miklos so as to keep the swordsmen from the mage. How the mage managed to survive any melee with only a stick a defend, Feldard would never understand!
