“I think that’s another sacrificial altar,” speculated Nicolai. “May Halav, Petra and Zirchev rain down all abominations on Dentiata and his fellows! But I think we still need to see exactly what is there.”
“I hear you, Nicolai.” said Maruc with feeling as he tried to roll the ball into the darkness with the staff. “I also suspect that there might be a good reason why we cannot see what is in there.”
The dwarf grumbled seemed walking in was gonna be the only solution. “I’ll go in. Tie me off in case their is a pit or such”
“It might be worth searching through his scrolls and notes again before anyone goes in there. There may be a way listed to get rid of the darkness. Miklos, do you want some help with that whilst the others try to get the glow globe working?”
Miklos had been waiting near the stairwell just in case an expeditious retreat was called for. The disappointment that the glow-globe idea failed had washed over Miklos. He sighed, it would take days, possibly weeks to scour the books in the library. “If you fished the globe back out it would still be alight I suspect. As to whether the answer to the darkness lies within the books you are almost certainly correct. However I think extracting the knowledge would take a prohibitive amount of time. I’d suggest we either follow Feldard’s plan and allow him the search the darkness with a rope around him. Or we leave here and find the dungeons and release whatever prisoners there are, then continue our journey.”
“There is an alternative. I could try a Ward spell? This is a rite that will purify an area about a person. I will need to pray first though. Halav, in his wisdom, may allow me to perform this rite.”
Maruc offered a prayer to Halav to allow him to cast Protection from Evil about Feldard. A warm feeling of protection enveloped the dwarf, blocking the cold aura of evil that had been emanating from the darkness.
“Come on then, lets see what Dentiata has been up to, I for one would like to get back the Specularum before I’m too old to walk.” Miklos snapped.

“A sacrifical altar, just as we found at Sevastian’s place is what we will find. By Halav, the answers are in those scrolls, but we do not have the time to go through them one be one.”
Nicolai steps up to hold the rope attached to Feldard.

Maruc clasped the rope as well. Two would be sufficient to pull the dwarf out of any trouble. He hoped.
“Good luck master Feldard. Halav will protect you.”

Miklos retrieved his staff and backed off again to his station by the stairwell. He mentally prepared himself for defensive magic use.

Secretly, Saeth was glad the Dwarf was going in first, though she tensed, ready to draw her blade and chase after if there was trouble. She glanced about, seeing the others and their own preparations, then back at the taut rope as it unfurled behind Feldard.
Disappear for a couple days, and the story just rolls on!

Feldard merely nodded at all the well wishing. “You’d think I was going on some major quest rather than a walk in the dark! Bah!”
With the rope tied about him, Feldard entered the darkness, his axe resting at the ready on his shoulder with one hand at its hilt, the other outstretched before him. He moved into the pitch black at normal pace judging his footfalls til he was near to the obstacle then he slowed and used his hearing and sense of smell to give him further clues. He felt about for the obstacle.
